KOMPAS.com- A boy in Tembalang, Semarang, Joseph Arnando (8) lost his left leg as a result bone cancer.
Nando now only able to sit in a wheelchair.
He also had to bury deep his dream of becoming a soldier.
Since his leg was amputated in July 2020, Nando no longer wants to go to school.
The pain was not only felt by Nando, his mother Okti Christina also felt the same way.
“Which parent wants to see their child lose his leg,” said Okti sadly.
Moreover, Okti has to take care of Nando alone with a mediocre economic condition. Meanwhile, Nando’s father died 8 years ago.

Starting thighs swell after playing
At that time, his son was still in school at the Kindergarten.
At that time, Okti took Nando for a traditional massage because he thought the swelling in his son’s leg was just plain tired.
“At first I thought it was normal swelling. But the way was limping. It turned out that I just said that when I fell while playing, I took it to a traditional massage,” said Okti.
“But after two months the swelling got bigger and bigger so I checked it to Bhayangkara Hospital, Semarang,” he continued.
At that time the doctor only gave bruising medication and said his son had regular bruises.

But after that, Nando passed through the day in pain.
Every night, the boy couldn’t sleep because of the pain in his leg.
Okti also brought Nando back to the Bhayangkara Hospital for X-rays.
X-rays revealed that Nando had a tumor. He was also referred to KRMT Wongsonegoro Hospital, Semarang.
There, Nando was declared to have bone cancer.
“We were told to refer to RSUD KRMT Wongsonegoro Semarang City, then it was discovered that my child had bone cancer,” he said.
Nando had undergone a network retrieval operation at Kariadi Hospital, Semarang.
Be amputated

“Hearing that ( amputation), Nando and I were shocked and cried together, “he said.
As a single parent, Okti has to bear the burden alone with a mediocre financial condition.
With a salary of Rp. 60,000 per day as a caretaker of the school canteen at Sedas Sapientiae Semarang, Okti has to work on Nando’s recovery.
Nando still has to do chemotherapy regularly.
On the one hand, Okti also has two other children. To make ends meet, Okti was forced to borrow money from his brother.
Because, since the pandemic, the school where he worked had to abolish face-to-face learning.
As a result, now Okti has no income.
But as a mother, Okti continues to strengthen her son Nando to be excited about life.
“I will do anything for my children. And I leave everything to God to take care of my children,” he said.
