When NASA’s Perseverance Rover Finds a Dacron on Mars

TANTRUM – United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have identified a strange material on Mars.

The material was first seen by the rover. Perseverance last July 12. According to NASA, the material didn’t come from aliens or other biological objects but a piece of it Dacron.

Dacron is a type of synthetic fiber embedded with resin and is often used in high-performance fabrics.

In Perseverance’s case, however, it’s likely part of a thermal protective blanket.

“This particular piece of net appears to have undergone significant unraveling or tearing. This shows that the material is experiencing strong strength,” the blog said, quoted by the Independent, quoted from Republika, Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

The web is not the first piece of debris left from the Perseverance rover’s landing to appear in the rover’s path.

In June, Perseverance spotted a piece of glossy foil-like material, possibly part of a thermal blanket on Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) trapped in a rock outcrop.

In April, the Ingenuity helicopter that landed on Mars along with Perseverance took pictures of the protective shell and parachute left over from the EDL carrying it. Perseverance safely arrived on the Red Planet.

A wide variety of landing gear remains are a consequence of making a soft landing on Mars. However, it can also present challenges for the Perseverance mission team.

Reported by the Independent, Tuesday (9/8/2022), Perseverance is charged with drilling rock and soil samples from the Martian surface, samples that will be collected and returned to Earth in the 2030s.

The sample will be analyzed to answer the question of whether Mars was once filled with living things or if there is real life there.

Although NASA is careful to sterilize Perseverance before launch to prevent Mars contaminationthe rover team will need to use the rover’s camera to try and ensure no material from the EDL gets into any of the samples drilled by the rover.

“The sampling team will also continue to monitor potential sources of contamination,” NASA said.
