Fetal movement is one of the determinants of a healthy pregnancy. Then when does the fetus begin to move and can it be felt by pregnant women or pregnant women?

The movement of the fetus in the womb usually begins to be felt by pregnant women around 16 weeks of gestation. According to the American Pregnancy Association (APA), some pregnant women can feel the fastest fetal movement at 13 to 16 weeks of gestation.

However, there are those who will not feel this movement until 18 to 20 weeks of gestation, especially those who are pregnant for the first time. Meanwhile, for the second and third pregnancies, movement usually begins to be felt closer to 18 weeks of gestation.

“Remember that every woman and every pregnancy is different so you may not feel movement as quickly as other women feel. There is a wide range when the first detection of fetal movement can be felt, from 13 to 25 weeks,” wrote the APA, quoted from its official website.

The same thing was expressed by Jennifer Keller, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Washington University in Washington, DC According to Keller, pregnant women who are pregnant with their first child usually feel fetal movement around 20 weeks of gestation.

“Most women in their first pregnancy begin to feel the baby move around 20 weeks,” Keller said Parents.

Ultrasound can detect fetal movement earlier

However, from an ultrasound examination, usually fetal movements can be detected early in pregnancy. This first movement may be seen as early as 6 to 8 weeks of gestation.

Many people describe the first movements of the fetus as ‘pulsing’. Over time as the gestational age increases, this movement feels like a kick, Mother.

Usually when you enter the age of 24 to 28 weeks, you can feel quite strong movements. You can even feel this movement just by holding your stomach.

“The first thing a baby does in the womb is make a big movement, like stretching and extending the arms and legs,” says Keller.

Another movement that may be felt is when the baby changes position. If you feel pain in your ribs because of this movement, chances are the fetus is in a breech position.

Then what should Mother do when the fetus starts to move?
