when can we expect it?

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a foldable iPhone, new iPad mini or a Mac Pro: there are countless rumors around Apple every day. One may be a little more believable than the other, but most certainly worth mentioning. Let that be exactly the reason that we The Grain of Salt have brought into being.

In this week’s edition we talk about the foldable iPhone, the arrival of a new Mac Pro and the screen of the iPad mini seems to be getting bigger. So a lot of information, but don’t forget to take it with a grain of salt.

iPhone: this is how the notch comes to an end

Where Android smartphones have been equipped with increasingly smaller notches for years, the iPhone models still do it with the variant from 2017. A variant that stands out because of its size. Apple has been trying to end that notch for ages, but it doesn’t seem to have found the right way yet. Although this new patent shows us something different.

A patent was filed by Apple in the US Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday. It is about “an electronic device with an adjustable screen”, which should be the solution for the notch. The patent refers to a screen that is bent downwards, so that the necessary sensors and cameras can be used.

iPad mini really does power a bigger screen

It seems certain that the screen of the iPad mini, which may still appear this year, will be larger. In addition to the many rumors, Apple also asks in a survey about the ideal size for consumers. According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the arrival of a larger display is inevitable and he already knows how big the new display will be.

Where the screen of the current iPad mini is 7.9-inch, the new model will be equipped with an 8.3-inch screen. Ideal, because the device itself does not seem to get any bigger. According to Young, the format remains the same, but the thick screen edges and the home button are renounced.

It is interesting to see what Apple chooses. For example, Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, previously announced that the smallest tablet would be equipped with an 8.4-inch screen.

Two or three years of waiting for foldable iPhone

If I could get a dollar for every rumor I see about a foldable iPhone, I wouldn’t necessarily be rich. This is because such a device is not talked about very regularly, but has been for a very long time. The first rumors are already years old.

Mark Gurman, journalist from Bloomerg, says that we can also wait for a foldable smartphone for the time being. In his PowerOn In last weekend’s newsletter, he announced that the device would appear within two or three years. He has no substantiation for his message, but expresses an expectation.

New Mac Pro and MacBook models

In the same newsletter, Gurman also talks about a new Mac Pro, Mac mini and MacBook Pro. According to the journalist, we will already see the MacBook Pro with an M1X processor this year, but we will have to wait a little longer for a more powerful iMac, Mac Pro and Mac mini. In that regard, we will be equipped with the second generation of Apple Silicon before the end of 2022.

Already rumored about the iPhone 15

It’s too bizarre for words, but the rumors are no longer even about the iPhone 14. They are already looking beyond that. According to DigiTimes there is already something to report about the iPhone 15. The smartphone is provided by Apple with smaller components and a larger battery. At least that’s the rumor at the moment.

In practice, this means that you get an iPhone with a better battery life, without the device also becoming physically larger.
