Wheat on MATIF is the most expensive in nine years

On Friday, quotations of grain contracts on world exchanges ended with an increase in prices. Wheat on the Paris stock exchange reached the price of EUR 280 / t, which is the highest price since the first decade of 2012.



It was another very good week of wheat trading on the Parisian trading floor. Wheat in the contract with Friday December delivery increased by 1.3 percent on Matif. to 280.00 EUR / t (1290 PLN / t), and in y / y terms the quotations increased by 33.5%. On the other hand, over the past week, the price of wheat has risen by 1.4 percent. and is the highest since November 9, 2012. From September 10 this year. (the beginning of the current upward wave) the quotes have already risen by 18%. Importantly, in terms of the Polish currency, the valuation of wheat on MATIF approached PLN 1,300 / t. I leave the prices on our market without comment.

Let me remind you that the upward trend in wheat prices is undoubtedly supported, on the one hand, by the poor quality grain in France (despite a significant increase in production compared to the previous season), and on the other hand, by the strong pace of wheat exports from the EU – higher by almost 40 percent. from the beginning of the season (July 1 this year) compared to the comparable period in the previous season.

The price of maize on the Paris stock exchange in the November contract (including the new harvest) on Friday increased by 0.7 percent. and amounted to EUR 249.00 / t (PLN 1147 / t), and over the last year it increased by 26.7 percent. During the week the quotes increased by 1.3%.

Wheat on CBOT in the December contract on Friday went up by 2.0 percent. and cost 277.78 USD / t. In terms of y / y, the quotations increased by 21.4%. Over the last week, the price has risen by 3.0 percent. The price of corn in a December delivery contract on the Chicago Stock Exchange rose 1.1 percent. and amounted to USD 211.80 / t, and over the last year it increased by 29.2 percent. Over the last week, the quotes rose by 2.3 percent.
