TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – WhatsApp just updated the voice note or voicemail feature. “Every day WhatsApp users send 7 billion voice messages. So we added several new features, including Playback Outside of Chat, Pause/Resume Recording, and Draft Preview to make sending and listening to your messages easier. I hope you enjoy it,” said Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Thursday, March 31, 2022.
“When first launching the feature voicemail Back in 2013, we realized that this feature would bring changes to the way users communicate. With a simple design, we wanted to make recording and sending voice messages as fast and easy as writing a text message,” WhatsApp said in a statement.
On average every day, WhatsApp users send as many as 7 billion voice messages on WhatsApp that are protected by encryption end-to-end to maintain the privacy and security of their messages at all times.
Here are the new features in the WhatsApp voicemail update.
- Playback Outside of Chat: Listen to voice messages outside of chat so you can do other activities on your phone or read and respond to other messages.
- Pause/Resume Recording: If there is an interruption or you feel the need to string thoughts or words together while recording a voice message, you can now pause recording a voice message and resume it when you are ready.
- Waveform Visualization: Displays a visual representation of the voice message that can make it easier for us to follow the visualization of the loudness and weakness of the sound on the recording.
- Draft Preview: Listen to your voicemail before sending it.
- Playback Bookmarks: If you pause while listening to a voice message, you can resume the last playback when you return to chat.
- Fast Playback on Forwarded Messages: Play voicemail at 1.5x or 2x speed to hear voicemails faster on regular messages or forwarded messages.
Voicemail has helped speed up and make it easier for users to have more expressive conversations. Expressing emotions or joy through voice messages feels more natural than through text messages.
In many situations, voicemail is the preferred form of communication on WhatsApp. Voice messages are easy to use by anyone, such as family members who don’t like typing text messages, friends who like to tell stories, colleagues who need words of encouragement, or for those of you who want to hear the sweet voice of your partner at the end of a tiring day.
