Animated stickers have long been standard on practically all common chat platforms – WhatsApp has never been enthusiastic about it, despite some internal tests. All available stickers were always static. That should finally change now. The animated subjects should be available shortly – the function is already activated in beta versions of the app.
Only a few sets available
The new WhatsApp function is planned for both Android and iOS. While it is very difficult to participate in the beta program under iOS, the beta version can be installed more easily on Android. AndroidPolice says it is version 2.20.195.2 beta.
By default, only one animated sticker set (Playful Piyomaru) is currently included. Three other sets can only be activated if you receive a sticker from this set yourself.
According to initial testers, the sticker only moves once in a conversation and then becomes static. The animation is only restarted when you scroll up again.
