WhatsApp has added extra security to the popular chat service. You will have to deal with this extra security when you use WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web.
WhatsApp has rolled out the extra layer of security without any major announcement. If you want to use WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop, you must connect it with the Android or iOS app. Previously, you could do this by simply scanning a QR code, but that’s different from now on.
From now on, when linking your account, you must confirm that it is you via fingerprint or facial recognition. If this is not possible, you can make the connection by entering the PIN code of the smartphone. The extra security should prevent unwanted people from accessing WhatsApp on your computer.
