The messaging application WhatsApp will no longer work on old cell phones, informs the company Meta, in a statement sent to the press this Tuesday (24). The functionality will be interrupted on Android 4.1 systems, which have not received updates from manufacturers since 2015.

According to the supplier, this interruption is necessary to ensure the security and stability of the application. Since older operating systems no longer receive updates containing the latest security fixes, which makes users vulnerable to possible cyber attacks.

Some models that operate on Android 4.1 are already being notified about the discontinuation of support. Users who receive the notification will have a period of 30 days to update the operating system or purchase a new device.
