Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – New device shipments to Indonesia fell 12.4% on an annual basis as of the third quarter of 2021. In the midst of this decline, a new ‘king’ of the mobile phone market in Indonesia was born. The most mobile phone brand shipped to Indonesia until the end of September 2021 was OPPO.
According to reports IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, OPPO is the leading mobile phone brand that sends its products to Indonesia because this brand managed to maintain its inventory when supply disruptions occurred towards the end of 2021.
OPPO is also recorded as leading the sales of the low-end segment of mobile phones whose prices range from US$100
The position of OPPO and Vivo was followed by Xiaomi in third place. Even though it’s down from its previous position, the Xiaomi brand still leads cell phone sales in the mid-range or price range segmentUS$200 .
In fourth place is the Samsung brand. Samsung’s position was held back because the company was constrained by the closure of retail stores due to restrictions on activities during the pandemic. However, the Samsung folding cellphone series is said to be able to boost the company’s performance as of the third quarter of 2021.
Lastly, there is the Realme brand in fifth position. This brand has managed to maintain sales momentum because it has a relatively stable supply.
The IDC report shows that shipments of new mobile phones to Indonesia in that period reached 9.2 million units. The decline in mobile phone shipments to Indonesia was due to disruptions and disruptions to global supply chains.
In addition, the decline occurred due to the second wave of Covid-19, which peaked in July 2021. This led to the enactment of strict activity restrictions for several months in Indonesia.
