What we know about the Sony PlayStation 5 – Games

Sony has released new details about the next generation of PlayStation 5 consoles. Backward compatibility seems to have some catching up to do.

In terms of content, it was exciting, but from the presentation it was yawning, which Sony announced at a livestream event for the upcoming Playstation 5. Mark Cerny, responsible for the system architecture of the console, spoke in the stream about the detailed interior. There was a little something new, even if packed in a very monotonous presentation.

It is now known that the SSD hard disk of the PS5 is 100 times faster than the HDD memory of the PS4 and can reach 5.5 gigabytes per second. This would completely eliminate installation and loading times. In addition, 16 gigabytes of RAM and a computing power of 10.3 teraflops should enable extremely realistic graphics and ray tracing technology.

SSD storage and gaming issue

Two aspects show that not all problems have been solved. On the one hand, gamers can retrofit an SSD themselves, but not all built-in devices will support the speeds of the PS5. That is why, according to Cerny, there should be a list of those that can expand the possibilities of Playstation 5 when the console is launched. And: You shouldn’t buy any storage yet, Cerny says in a whisper.

But an even bigger issue: backward compatibility. Downward compatibility with the PS4 has been confirmed, but only the 100 most played PS4 titles will run on the PS5 at launch. Again, there was no information from PS3 and downwards. Competitor Microsoft is significantly further ahead with its Xbox. Otherwise: The PS5 will produce 3D sound that comes close to headphone 3D sound. The new generation should also be quieter than its predecessor.
