The 10th anniversary of the murder of a young Portuguese man in London was this Friday marked with an appeal from the police and family and the offer of a reward of 32 thousand euros for information to help find those responsible.
Ricardo Cunha was 23 years old when, on September 11, 2010, on a Saturday night, he heard knocking at the door around 11:20 pm while watching television with his girlfriend in the apartment where he lived in West Norwood, south London. When he looked at the window to see who he was, he was shot in the head, resulting in immediate death. Over these ten years, the London Metropolitan Police reinforced the theory that Ricardo Cunha was the victim of a mistake, and that she was not the target of the crime.
In 2011, he published the image of a 1924 Webley Mark Six revolver, which may have been the murder weapon, which was fired during an incident three days after Ricardo Cunha’s murder not far away, in the Brixton neighborhood. No one was injured during the incident and the gun was found the next day, but the police suspect this element could help find the perpetrators.
“I know that someone knows who shot this innocent in his own home. As time passes, affiliations can change and I appeal directly to those people who, for some reason, did not show up at the time, to take this opportunity to provide us with the information now. Any information provided, no matter how small, will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, ”promised Sergeant Detective Sergeant Matt Flynn.
An employee of window cleaning, Ricardo Cunha was an enthusiastic soccer player and was watching the program that night with summaries of the matches of the British Premier League. The possibility of being linked to criminal activity has been removed, which makes the police suspicious that the homicide was the result of an identity error, so it issued several appeals for information, including on BBC television.
The information reward has since been increased to £ 30,000, about € 32,000.
In a statement issued this Friday by the police, Ricardo’s mother, Maria Cunha regretted that, after ten years, she still does not know by whom or why the son was killed “with such cruelty”.
“Nothing is going to bring our Ricardo back to us, but I want whoever did this to my son to pay for what he did,” he said, recalling “a lovely young man, always ready to help anyone, always available for the family and your friends ”.
“Ten years have passed, but there is still a day that does not cry for not having our Rick here with us”, he confided.
