This Tuesday the primary elections took place in Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and Utah, without many surprises and some important losses for the former president Donald Trump.

While moderate challengers beat Trump-backed candidates in Colorado, there was a significant victory for the “Save America” movement in Illinois.

Among Democrats, the election in New York was hotly contested, but Governor Kathy Hochul prevailed over the challengersincluding progressive Jumaane Williams.

Colorado

Heidi Ganahl will be the Colorado Republican Party’s nominee to run against incumbent Democratic Governor Jared Polis in November, who had no contest in the primary, so he was confirmed for re-election.

Ganahl beat Hispanic contender Greg Lopezwho stood out in the race for supporting former President Donald Trump’s theories about “electoral fraud” that he could not prove in court.

Illinois

In Illinois, former President Trump had more luck with the victory of state Senator Darren Bailey, who prevailed over the moderate Richard Irvin, the former mayor of Aurora.

Bailey will face Democrat JB Pritzkerwho easily achieved victory against Beverly Miles.

Trump has referred to Pritzker as “one of the worst governors” of the entity.

“Darren is the ideal man to take on and defeat one of the worst governors in America,” he said.

Bailey focused her campaign on the violence in Chicago, which she called “a dysfunctional, corrupt, crime-ridden hellhole.”

Another winner of the “Trump team” was the representative in the 15th Congressional District, Mary Miller, who said that the Supreme Court decision on abortion It was a triumph “for the life of white people”, although a spokeswoman wanted to amend the sayings by assuring that she was referring to the “right to life”.

New York

In New York, Democratic Governor Hochul prevailed without problem to compete in November for the position she currently occupies, to which she was appointed after the resignation of former Governor Andrew Cuomo, singled out for several cases of harassment.

“I am here because I stand on the shoulders of generations of women, generations of women who constantly had to face that glass ceiling. For the women of New York, this is a win for you,” Hochul said.

On the Republican side, Lee Zeldin defeated Andrew Giulianidespite his father Rudy Giuliani’s efforts in recent weeks to push his campaign.

Oklahoma

In this state, Republican Governor Kevin Stitt won his party’s primary with 69 percent. He was endorsed by Trump, who also endorsed him four years ago.

For this race, the former president even launched a fundraiser in April for Stitt, whom he recently called “a fighter for the incredible people of Oklahoma.”

Joy Hofmeister won the Democratic Party nomination and will face Stitt in November.

Utah

The entity does not have a gubernatorial vote, but Republican Senator Mike Lee faced a race in which he was the winner in his party. Lee is known for espousing voter fraud conspiracy theories, which former President Trump continues to espouse.

Lee is among the characters under investigation by the Select Committee into the assault on the Capitol, which has noted that Lee discussed how to “legally deny” election results in 2020, via texts sent to Mark Meadowsformer White House chief of staff.

Democrat Evan McMullin will face Lee on November 8.
