Changing climate — protection and adaptation
Exhibition until July 30 | Tue – Sat | admission free
Climate change makes front pages, stirs demonstrations, divides societies and is an issue for the judiciary. Changes in numerous areas of life can also be measured and felt in Hesse.

The current exhibition in the weather and climate workshop illustrates how we can stop the progression of climate change with climate protection measures and how we can deal with the existing climatic changes through so-called climate adaptation.

This involves measures that are already being specifically developed or implemented in Offenbach and that can serve as examples for other cities. Numerous initiatives are presented that are dedicated to the fight against climate change and are always open to new members.

Global climate change — local urban climate changes and adaptations
Lecture July 21, 2022 | 7 p.m. | admission free

Climate change is evident all over the world, including in Offenbach. In addition to combating climate change, it is important to know how people and cities can adapt to changing climates.

In his lecture, David Stoitner shows what climate change means for the city of Offenbach, what the local urban climate will look like and which associated changes are already visible. He presents planning and information tools to help adapt.

David Stoitner works as a specialist for climate protection and climate adaptation at the Office for Environment, Energy and Climate Protection of the City of Offenbach am Main on the implementation of the climate concept 2035. He studied human geography in Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg.

Discussion round for citizens with Sabine Groß, Mayor of Offenbach
Climate consultation on July 26, 2022 | 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. | admission free

Climate change also has direct effects on Offenbach. But which ones are they? And what can we do about it? How can we make life in the city more climate-friendly? And what is the city administration doing about it? As the responsible department head, Sabine Groß will offer a climate consultation in the weather and climate workshop for citizens.

Sabine Groß, mayor of the city of Offenbach since July 2021, is responsible for the youth welfare office, the EKO and the housing, insurance and registry office. Other areas of her responsibility include health, environment, veterinary services, consumer protection and auditing.

Climate protection forest – What does climate change mean for our forests?
Lecture July 28, 2022 | 7 p.m. | admission free

Our forests are important climate protectors! With their needles and leaves, they filter the climate-damaging carbon dioxide from the air and split it into oxygen and carbon. They release the oxygen back into the air. But what does climate change mean for forests? How do periods of drought and heavy rain events affect trees?

Thomas Leppelt from the German Weather Service deals with these questions. The agricultural meteorologist gives an overview of the effects of climate change on forest ecosystems and shows ways in which we can adapt forests and forestry operations to the changed climatic conditions.
