MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Western sanctions against Russia and Belarus will be applied in any case, the reasons for this will be found.

Putin said at a press conference after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

“Sanctions will be imposed in any case. Whether they have a reason today, for example, in relation to events in Ukraine, or there is no such reason, it will be found, because the goal is different, in this case the goal is to slow down the development of Russia and Belarus, ” said the Russian leader, according to the Tass news agency.

“With this aim, there will always be reasons to impose certain illegitimate restrictions, and this is nothing more than unfair competition,” Putin added.

“This is a grave violation of international law, but those who are now talking about it (about the possibility of new sanctions) they care about it (international law) only if it benefits them,” Putin said.
