Blood is a very special juice – Goethe already knew that, writes the city of Weinstadt in a press release. It cannot be repeated often enough that blood donors are also an essential and life-saving part of the rescue chain: At the beginning of March, Mayor Michael Scharmann honored 20 blood donors from Weinstadt for a total of 495 blood donations – and thanked them for their selfless commitment.
Only three percent in Germany are blood donors
“It cannot be taken for granted what you have done so regularly for your fellow citizens in need. Only three percent of people in Germany donate blood.
Medical care for serious injuries and life-threatening diseases is not functional without blood,” said Scharmann and thanked all donors on behalf of the entire city. His thanks also went to the DRK local association in Weinstadt, which made the fundraising campaign possible in the first place.
Donated blood 495 times together
A total of 20 donors were honored, eleven men and nine women – four donors for 50 blood donations each (gold pin of honor with golden oak wreath), nine donors for 25 blood donations each (gold pin of honor with golden laurel wreath) and seven donors for ten each Blood donations (gold pin of honor). “Together you donated blood 495 times. I am pleased to be able to honor you today as a role model for your continuous and multiple commitment to donating blood,” emphasized Mayor Scharmann.
