Weekly RIVM figures: percentage of positive corona tests remained the same

Last week, 1329 corona infections were registered, according to new figures from RIVM. Last week, 987 new infections were reported, compared to 534 the previous week.

The percentage of people who tested positive remained the same at 1 percent. This indicates that the situation has changed little in a week, RIVM writes. Three weeks ago, 0.6 percent of all people who had themselves tested carried the coronavirus; two weeks ago that was 1 percent.

The contamination number, the ‘r-value’, is 1.40. This means that 100 corona patients together infect 140 other people. Last week, this reproduction number was 1.29. Only if the infection number is reduced below 1, the spread of the virus decreases.

Aura Timen of the Center for National Coordination of Infectious Disease Control: “These figures are reassuring. We are still seeing an increase this week, but it is not going as fast as last week.” Last week, Timen called the doubling “worrying” and “a wake-up call.”

The number of infections again rose most in South Holland, North Holland and Zeeland. In the past two weeks, South Holland received 28 patients per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 22 in Zeeland and 18 in South Holland. In the northern provinces, the number of infections was much lower, although the number of infections there is also increasing.
