Weather report. Multiplication of fires, caution is required as the weekend approaches

With the wind announced this weekend, the risk of fires increases. Firefighters have already intervened in Saint-André-de-Majencoules (Gard), Saint-André-de-Sagonis (Hérault) and Montpellier to contain three fires this Thursday, May 26.

The wind is likely to blow for this Ascension weekend in the Gard. Gusts of up to 60 km / h are expected, which could lead to fires in dry areas such as Garrigues, Petite Camargue or even Costières.

Some places have already paid the price for these climatic conditions conducive to fires. The firefighters intervened twice this Thursday, May 26.

This Thursday, May 26, in Saint-André-de-Majencoules, a major outbreak of wildfire took place. The Gard firefighters were quickly mobilized in the Gard commune north of Vigan.

Nearly thirty machines were deployed to try to control the fire. Two canadairs also came to complete the system. The spread of the fire could be limited to five hectares.

No injuries are to be deplored but the firefighters remained alert until the middle of the night.

Vegetation also ignited in Saint-André-de-Sangonis in Hérault. Three hectares caught fire along the A750 towards Saint-Félix-de-Lodez. Fifty firefighters brought the incident under control.

In the Toury business area, in Montpellier, the fire spread to a car dealership. Three vehicles caught fire. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, the fire was also brought under control.

With the drought and the approach of summer, the risk of fires is multiplied. Faced with this, the firefighters are mobilizing but they lack arms. For example in the Pyrénées-Orientales, where a call for volunteers has been launched. 300 volunteer firefighters are missing to complete the total workforce of 2000 people.
