Göttingen / Offenbach (dpa / lni) – at first bitterly cold – and a little later spring-like warm: within a week, the German Weather Service (DWD) in Göttingen registered a temperature increase of 41.9 degrees. While a low of minus 23.8 degrees had been measured there on February 14, the high on Sunday was 18.1 degrees, as the DWD announced.
In order to find an approximately comparable temperature reversal for Germany in the past, the weather researchers had to go back a long way in their archives: The previous record was established in May 1880, i.e. in the early days of the weather records. At that time, a temperature increase of 41 degrees was measured within a week, said a spokesman for the DWD.
