Weather – Offenbach am Main – shade and cool water desired – new daily heat record – panorama

Dresden (dpa / sn) – High “Efim” makes Saxony sweat. According to the German Weather Service (DWD) Leipzig, the temperature reached a new maximum of 35.1 degrees Celsius on June 18 on Saturday. The record value was measured at 3.30 p.m. in Plauen (Vogtland), as a meteorologist from the German Weather Service said on request. At 35 degrees, it was almost as hot in Dresden-Hosterwitz and Bad Muskau (Görlitz district). The previous peak of 33.8 degrees Celsius was from 2002 – in Leipzig-Holzhausen.

“It’s sunny, hot and dry,” the meteorologist on duty described the situation in the entire Free State at noon. Only a little gusty wind from the southwest makes it bearable. “Mid summer weather, it’s still spring,” he said.

Numerous people threw themselves into the cool water and for the first time this year caused crowds in outdoor pools. In the Geibeltbad in Pirna (Saxon Switzerland) or in the mass baths in Großröhrsdorf (Bautzen district), long queues formed at the entrance. “It’s well attended, but there’s still room,” it said. The DWD warns on its homepage of high UV radiation and sees a very high health risk. Protective measures are “absolutely necessary”.

According to the meteorologist, Sunday night will not cool down either. Although the temperature falls below 30 degrees, it does not go below 20 degrees everywhere, especially not in the metropolitan areas. “It’s best to leave Saxony,” he recommended. “It’s a pleasant 20 degrees on the Baltic Sea and North Sea.” Because there are also similar highs on Sunday, “maybe a degree more”.

Whether the expected thunderstorms will come during the day is still uncertain. “It stays rather sunny and dry.” A cold front with precipitation and thunderstorms will probably only pass through at night and on Monday morning. The values then drop to a maximum of 19 to 23 degrees, “which is normal for this time of year”.

With the drought, the risk of forest fires has increased significantly. In the entire north of the Free State, including the state capital Dresden, the highest warning level 5 was already in effect on Saturday. According to the authorities’ forecast, the situation will continue to worsen. For Sunday, they assume that there is also a very high risk in Leipzig and Dresden and then in seven districts – with the change in weather, the situation should relax significantly again on Monday.

In Lauta (Bautzen district) the forest floor burned on Friday evening on about 500 square meters. According to the Görlitz police department, the fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring residential buildings and extinguished them. The cause of the fire is being determined and arson cannot be ruled out.
