Farmer Mutlu Yılmaz, living in the 12-digit village of Gerdekkaya in the Alaca district of Çorum, tried to remove a large stone he saw while he was preparing his chickpea field for harvest in April 2019.

Finally, a buyer in America contacted Yılmaz. Yılmaz agreed to sell the 4 thousand year old meteorite to the buyer in America for 180 thousand dollars (1 million 340 thousand TL). It was stated that the meteorite will be sent to America and the sales process will be completed according to the results of the tests and analysis to be made there.

SOLD TO A BUYER IN AMERICA
Yilmaz stated that when they first found the meteorite, he received an offer of 68 thousand dollars and said, “At that time, we were misled by people because we did not have a complete idea about the subject because we found it new. For this reason, we did not give the stone. Then we regretted not giving it to those money. We received offers of 8, 20 thousand dollars. Finally, a person buying and selling precious stones in the USA contacted us. 180 thousand dollars were offered, we accepted and sold. However, we follow the official procedure. “They will examine the stone after sending it, if the necessary analysis results come out, they will take the stone and we will get our money,” he said.

Stating that many people who want to see the meteorite come to visit them, Yılmaz said, “Many visitors came for the stone. Thanks to this stone, we had the opportunity to meet new people. It was a very different experience for us. Our meteorite was exhibited and visited.
