We will see a big increase in prices next year. What do we pay extra for? OVERVIEW

According to economists, Czechs saved four times more during the pandemic than twenty years ago. But some of these savings will quickly disappear from their pockets.

Foodstuffs

While the pandemic has pushed prices down, the outlook for next year is not too rosy. Prices will again climb to their original value. “Cereals and oilseeds are more expensive this year,” said economist Štěpán Křeček.

Meat will also become more expensive, for example a kilo of beef by 7 crowns, a kilo of pork roast or ham by 6 crowns. According to economists’ predictions, a kilogram of chicken meat will increase in price by one crown.

Gastronomy

In restaurants, people are said to feel more expensive, especially at lunch. “Rents have definitely not decreased, nothing is decreasing, so I expect 15 to 20%,” said Luboš Kastner from the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

For example, we paid around 30 crowns for beer before the pandemic, next year the price will increase to an estimated 37.

The price of the owners of the establishments is also attributed to the lack of qualified staff. “It is gastronomy that has to catch up with other segments in terms of salary conditions, and this is not possible other than with other income,” explains Grason co-founder Karel Mařík.

Housing and mortgages

Anyone who didn’t take out a mortgage now was stupid. Interest rates will continue to rise. “This year we can expect about two increases of half a percent,” predicts economist Michal Skořepa.

Last year, apartment prices also rose rapidly. “We are looking for an apartment in Ústí nad Labem, but when I found out how the prices move there, we decided to withdraw from it,” Mr. Patrik Denev told Nova TV. And next year they are said to increase by another five percent.

Building material

The prices of bricks, concrete, wood and polystyrene skyrocketed. “Compared to the beginning of March this year, the current prices are about 80 percent higher,” said Michal Vanke, head of Woodcote stavebniny. And by the end of the summer, they will also grow.

He also pays for the family budget. Even ordinary water becomes business. Just for comparison, in 2000 a cubic meter of water cost 32 crowns, next year we will pay 94 crowns for it.

And electricity will also become more expensive, people will pay up to 500 crowns extra for one megawatt-hour.

Fuel

During the pandemic, the price of oil fell to the lowest level since 1999. Fuel prices began to rise in mid-January this year, and in March the rate of rise was the fastest in 10 years.

Currently, drivers give an average of 32 crowns for petrol and 30 for diesel. In the following year, prices should rise by another crown.

Economists also expect prices for toys, cars or tobacco to rise in price.

Economist Lukáš Kovanda said as far as the price increase will go:
