We look at wallet freelancers – Biznes at INTERIA.PL

The number of freelancers earning over 5,000 PLN monthly increased this year by as much as 43 percent. vs 2019 Freelancers whose salary exceeds 10,000 PLN is the most in four years. Of these, there are often people receiving 15,000 or even 20,000. PLN net per month. How are wages broken down by gender? How did coronavirus affect freelancers and their earnings?

Freelancing is an increasingly attractive way of earning a living, professional development and simply a lifestyle. The possibility of influencing remuneration, hours in which duties are performed or taking leave, i.e. the possibility of being a captain, rudder and ship, is liked by an increasing number of Poles. Such conclusions are derived from the latest research conducted in June 2020 by Useme.com – the largest remote work platform in Central Europe and a tool for its settlement. It is worth noting that this is a cyclical survey carried out by the portal every year for four years.

– The number of freelancers performing their work in the field of electronic business services has increased this year to the level of a quarter of a million people, with a dynamics of 15%. compared to 2019 – says Przemysław Dźwięny, president of Useme.com. – The largest impact on this state has 11 percent. increase in the number of entities and individuals associated with programming as well as broadly understood IT. Also noteworthy is the fact that over the last 12 months, when we last examined Polish freelancers, the percentage of people living only from this profession increased to about 140,000 people and companies. – adds Loud.

Every year, native freelancers earn more and more. This fact applies both to those who work in freelancing treat this occupation as the main source of income, as well as those for whom it is a way of earning a permanent salary. This year’s research shows that for almost half (49.5 percent) of respondents, freelancing is the only form of earning, and for the remaining 50.5 percent. is a form of earning a full-time job or another form of main occupation.

– It is worth emphasizing that compared to last year, it was dynamic, as much as 43 percent increase, people who earn more than 5 thousand zlotys. In 2019, the percentage of freelancers who obtained 5,000 or more per month was at 8.53 percent, and in 2020 it is already 12.3 percent .. – says Przemysła Speaker, president of Useme.com. – It is also worth adding that in this group 9 percent respondents earn between 5 and 10 thousand zlotys on hand, and 3.2 percent freelancers receive over PLN 10,000 a month. Among the freelancers we also have a fairly large group of professionals for whom earnings at the level of 15 or even 20 thousand a month are not something unattainable and unusual – sums up Loud.

Research shows that the group that earns the most are freelancers offering programming and IT services. Nearly four out of ten respondents in this group receive a salary of over PLN 5,000 every month. It is worth noting that this is over twice as much as it is for all freelancers. As much as 17 percent IT specialists earn more than PLN 10,000 a month, while the average for such earnings in the entire group of respondents is 4 percent.

Among the freelancers who earn better and better are also professional contractors of websites and online stores, graphic designers, including those who design in 3D, SEO specialists, SEM and translators. This year, freelance architects and consultants / strategists also joined the leaders.

Unfortunately, women working in this profession receive lower wages, just like the rest of the other branches of the Polish economy. In the 6 percent group freelancers earning over PLN 10,000, only 1% are women, while men constitute 5 percent. In the range of 5 – 10 thousand zlotys represented by 18 percent. respondents, ladies are only 7%, gentlemen 11% In turn, in the group in which freelancing is only an addition and a way to earn some extra money for a permanent job, in which earnings are up to 1 thous. PLN per month, women up to 44 percent, and men up to 31 percent.

As shown by the results of studies conducted by Useme.com, COVID-19 and lockdown lasting for several weeks had a significant impact on freelancers in Poland. As many as two-thirds (64.29 percent) of freelancers estimate that the overall situation in the industry has deteriorated or significantly deteriorated. For 6 out of 10 respondents (57.89 percent) the number of orders or work in general decreased. For every fourth (28.2 percent) it remained unchanged. As a consequence, for more than half (57.14%) of respondents during the pandemic, income fell. For almost half of freelancers (48.12 percent), the pandemic reduced employment stability, and for 42.48 percent. had a negative impact on the valuations of their projects. On the other hand, coronavirus for over half (51.88%) of the respondents did not have a negative or positive impact on the valuation of the work.

It is worth noting that the pandemic did not affect the decisions of freelancers conducting business activities in terms of their suspension or closure. Only 5.3 percent respondents are considering such an option, and as many as 95% respondents want to continue it.

The study was conducted in June 2020 by the CAWI method and involved 1076 freelancers. 51.8 percent responded. women and 48.2% men, mainly from large (35.0%) and medium-sized cities (21.8%).
