This reprimand was delivered via Twitter by commenting on the draft law (RUU) released by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
According to Bukele, El Salvador is a sovereign country and not a colony of Washington. Thus, he said, America has no right to interfere in its decision to adopt bitcoin.
“OK boomers…,” sound tweet Bukele on Wednesday (16/2/2022) night. “We are not your colony, your backyard or your front yard. Stay away from our internal affairs, “he continued.
“Don’t try to control something you can’t control.”

He added that the US has no jurisdiction in El Salvador, a sovereign and independent country.
Bukele, who was elected president in 2019, once described himself as “the coolest dictator in the world” in his Twitter biography. However, now he refers to himself as the “CEO of El Salvador”.
He was responding to statements by three US senators, two Republicans and a Democrat, who were concerned about the adoption of bitcoin in El Salvador and the potential risks to the US financial system it might represent.
The chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Menendez, joined Republican Senators Jim Risch of Idaho and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana in proposing the Accountability for Cryptocurrency in El Salvador (ACES) Act.
