We already know what it looks like, astronomers rejoice. They published the first photo of “our” black hole

Astronomers on Thursday released the first image of the giant black hole Sagittarius A *, located in the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. The global research team of the Event Horizon Telescope project informed about this on its website, which created the image using a worldwide network of radio telescopes.

“This result provides overwhelming evidence that this object is truly a black hole, and provides valuable clues as to how such giants, believed to be located in the centers of most galaxies, work,” the project’s international team said in an image. .

A black hole is an object that curves time and space around itself in such a way that not even light can escape from it. Such an astronomical body surrounds an environment called the event horizon, from which no signal can be sent out. It is therefore natural that the black hole cannot be seen, but the hot disk of material around it glows brightly.

Sagittarius A * is 26,000 light-years away from Earth and, according to scientists, weighs four million Suns. A light year is the distance that light travels in a year, which is 9.5 trillion kilometers.

The Sagittarius A * is not the first real shot of a black hole. This was a photograph of such a giant object in the center of the Messier 87 galaxy. This was also possible thanks to the Event Horizon Telescope project, whose team published the image three years ago in April.
