Water restrictions in Eure-et-Loir: the prefect calls on the population to “continue the efforts which are beginning to bear fruit”

” For a week (July 20, 2022, editor’s note), we have taken measures which are starting to have their effect because the situation obviously remains very serious but is starting to stabilize, ”said the prefect, Françoise Souliman, on Wednesday evening.
It calls on “individuals, traders and business leaders, as well as farmers to continue their efforts and reduce their water consumption by 30%, whatever the use. »

Drought sets in in France, water restrictions too

An essential act of good citizenship

Admittedly, the conditions have not worsened and the situation has stabilized, but as the drought continues, the measures taken last week will continue. This is to deal with the consequences of the drop in the level of groundwater in the drinking water boreholes of Francourville and Prunay-le-Gillon.Document: Eure-et-Loir prefecture of July 20, 2022.

A call for good citizenship already launched last week when eleven municipalities in the Chartres conurbation went from the “reinforced alert” classification to the “crisis situation” classification. “The rivers, like certain groundwater tables in the department, are thus in a very fragile situation, in particular in the Chartres conurbation and the Perche” we communicate on the side of the prefecture.

“This act of good citizenship is an essential act for the preservation of our natural resource. We must continue the efforts that are beginning to bear fruit. »

For comparison, the month of July 2021 had collected 39.8 mm of rainy precipitation.*. If this month had been considered by some as particularly rainy, it was nevertheless drier than the average rainfall for the month of July (between 1981 and 2010: 56.5 mm).

Drought: the south-east of Yvelines on alert

If it does not rain within three days, the cumulative rainfall for this month of July will not exceed 23.5 mm. Precipitation which would thus be 58% lower than over the period 1981-2010 for the same month.

These rainfall decreases are not only observed in the summer month but for each period compared to previous years.
Between January 1, 2022 and July 26, the soil received 294.9 mm of rain compared to 364.6 mm last year over the same period. Françoise Souliman calls on the population to “continue the efforts which are beginning to bear fruit. »

Authority checks

Despite last week’s lingering concern, the restrictions remain the same. The municipalities concerned are Chartres, Berchères-les-Pierres, Champhol, Gellainville, Le Coudray, Lèves, Lucé, Luisant, Mainvilliers, Poisvilliers and Saint-Prest.

“Security checks will take place. “According to our information, the car wash operations will be targeted. Violators of prefectural orders risk a 5th category fine of 1,500 euros (or 3,000 € in the event of a repeat offence).

“A review clause is planned for next week, when the prefect will once again bring together all the state services and other players concerned. »

Irrigation prohibited. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., farmers will no longer be able to irrigate their fields in the municipalities concerned.
Watering prohibits green spaces and sports grounds. The sports fields and green spaces of these municipalities can no longer be watered.
