For the barbecue or birthday party, some people rely on disposable tableware. It’s convenient, and today you don’t have to feel guilty any more. There have long been alternatives to plastic dishes, which should be avoided because of their CO₂ balance. The wholesalers have plates made of palm leaves in their range. These are – as the product advertising promises – compostable and can be disposed of with the green waste collection.
“Not true,” says Simon Amann, the Winterthur waste advisor, and continues: “All compostable containers and packaging have no place in the green waste collection.” The only exception are the special compost bags with a grid structure. “Everything else belongs in the garbage.”
