Was there a robbery of Deportes Tolima fans at a toll booth?

The young men in the video belonged to Deportes Tolima fans and were returning to their apartment after watching their team’s game against Deportivo Pasto.

A group of at least 30 young people – apparently fans of Deportes Tolima – got off a tractor trailer and they ran to the toll booths of El Cerrito, Valle del Cauca. It was spread on social networks that fans intimidated and robbed the venue, however the police gave another version.

The events took place on the afternoon of 9 October. Fans were returning from La Libertad after witnessing Deportes Tolima’s 1-2 defeat to Deportivo Pasto. The young people took advantage of the fact that their transporter – the driver of the tractor trailer – stopped at the El Cerrito (Valle) toll booth to get off and approach the drivers and road workers.

“When the young people saw other people asking for coins and the drivers gave them to them, they got out of the truck and did the same. There was no robbery, they did not try, nor did they vandalize”, Clarified Colonel Wilson Silva, deputy commander of the Valley Police.

In any case, the carabinieri stopped the vehicle in which the fans were traveling to request identification documents from the driver and passengers.

On the streets of the country it is common to find fans of the different Colombian soccer teams. The barristians go to the stadiums in tourist buses or in “pirate” mode – as they say to travel on cargo vehicles – to accompany their teams.
