Was parking lot resale a shady deal or was there nothing strange going on? ‘It’s guesswork’ | Utrecht

A parking space at the Rachmaninoffplantsoen was sold by the municipality at the beginning of October 2018 for 311,000 euros to developer Rachmaninoff bv. The latter handed over the site to investor Bouwinvest a day later for 969,049 euros. There is now a construction plan for a 70-meter high residential tower with 140 apartments in front of the parking lot.

A shady land deal SP and PvdA judged in the municipal council, as a result of which the municipality lost almost a million euros. According to alderman Klaas Verschuure (D66), the situation is different. Investor Bouwinvest did not pay a higher amount for the parking space, but still had to pay for the purchase of an office building adjacent to the parking lot. “When the parking lot was delivered, the remaining amount was added to it,” said the alderman.

PvdA and SP were not convinced by the words of the alderman. SP councilor Tim Schipper called the deferred payment ‘guesswork’. ,,How do you know that it is correct?” added PvdA councilor Rick van der Zweth. The mayor admitted he wasn’t sure. ,,But we checked with the two market parties, with whom we do more business in this city. And this is the statement they are giving us.”
