Was acquitted: – Killed Tinder date after shock revelation

In the spring of last year, Isimemen David Etute (19) from Blacksburg in Virginia swiped on the dating app Tinder and matched with the profile of 21-year-old “Angie Renee”.

In April 2021, they agreed to meet and Etute went to the woman’s apartment with Da’Shawn Elder – a teammate from the Virginia Tech football team.

When they arrived at “Angie’s” home, the apartment was darkened and the 21-year-old woman tried to hide her face. Elder later stated that he perceived the whole thing as strange. It therefore ended with both friends leaving the apartment, writes ESPN.

Oral sex

Shortly afterwards, however, Etute returned alone and the meeting ended with “Angie” performing oral sex on him. The then 18-year-old man is also said to have received a gift from the woman worth 50 US dollars.

When he left the apartment he was sure that it was a lady he had been intimate with. He believed this until his teammates started joking that “Angie Renee” could have been a man.

The following month, another teammate named Jalen Hampton got a match with the same woman. He went to meet her, but has stated that he felt uncomfortable and chose to go home again.

Would confront

Etute and Hampton, together with a third teammate, decided on 31 May 2021 to visit “Angie”. They wanted to find out if she was actually who she pretended to be.

Only Etute entered the apartment.

Etute has explained that the home was dark and that he had to use the flashlight on his mobile phone to find out.

He discovered 40-year-old Jerry Smith lying on the bed.

“Etute has in interrogation explained that Smith grabbed his genitals before he had time to confront him. Etute must then have hit the man in the face.

He then allegedly thought that Smith reached for a weapon under the bed, which led to him hitting Smith with a clenched fist repeatedly “, writes ESPN.

On June 1, Etute was taken in for questioning by the police and later charged with premeditated murder. The teenager’s defender Jimmy Turk has all the way claimed that the client acted in self-defense.

No firearms were ever found in Smith’s apartment, but police reported finding a knife between the mattress and the springs.

Etute was bailed out of custody on June 9 and placed under house arrest, as well as a plaintiff around the ankle, until the trial this year.

Was acquitted

During the trial that began last week, Etute explained that he felt a “violent anger” when he found out that “Angie Renee” was actually a 40-year-old man.

Furthermore, the now 19-year-old teenager said that he hit Smith five times and trampled him in the face to get a head start on the way out of the apartment. According to him, the man was still alive when he left the bedroom.

Prosecutor Patrick Jensen, who works for the prosecution, argued against Etute acting in self-defense. He claimed that Smith, after falling to the floor, was in no way able to reach a possible weapon.

– He could never have reached a gun from that position, Jensen said during the trial.

After the three-day trial, the jury spent three hours acquitting 19-year-old Isimemen Etute on Friday 27 May.

Just seconds after the acquittal was read out, Smith’s family left the courtroom.

Defender Jimmy Turk, who has a 36-year career in the profession, told the press that Etute’s acquittal was his proudest moment so far in his career.

– I’m not shocked, because that was the only correct decision by the jury. But one is always worried about whether one has managed to convince twelve people. It is constantly nerve-wracking. “I am grateful to the jury, who did the only thing right,” Turk told the newspaper The Roanoke Times.
