Warsaw. Piston in shopping malls. “Queues go beyond some salons”

There is increased traffic in the capital’s shopping centers and stores, inform their employees. They also claim that it is now much larger than it was under the restrictions. However, both customers and shopping centers must comply with coronavirus restrictions – this is controlled by the police.

From November 28 – after the break – shops and service points in shopping malls and parks are reopened. However, there are sanitary restrictions, which show that in individual stores, depending on the area, 10 to 20 customers can stay at once, and in the case of larger stores, up to 40 people. According to the guidelines, there is a limit of people in shops and shopping malls – a maximum of 1 customer per 15 square meters, and an obligation to cover the mouth and nose in public spaces.

Nevertheless, there is increased traffic in the capital’s shopping centers and shops. An employee of one of the shopping malls in Warsaw said in an interview with the Polish Press Agency that on Saturday there were “loads” of people in the mall. – Queues go beyond some salons – he noted. – There are restrictions on people in the showrooms that the employees follow. There are hand sanitizers at every entrance to the store, ‘he said. According to him, people generally obey the restrictions and wear masks.

Cameras are counting customers

– We are definitely visited by more clients than during the government trade restrictions, but at the same time we have never exceeded the limits set by the government – said Arkadia, spokeswoman for CH Westfield, Karolina Osińska.

She also assured that CH Westfield Arkadia “has tools to measure the number of people staying in the facility”. – You probably have already encountered this information, because probably large commercial facilities, large centers have them. It is a camera system with a measuring mechanism, thanks to which we can accurately determine the number of customers in our center all the time – she explained.

– We know from discussions with our tenants that the sales results in the first days after the Saturday opening, after November 28, are above their assumptions. It is also very encouraging information for us – added Osińska.

Exit only “for a specific purpose”

According to the spokeswoman, purchasing decisions are “well-thought-out”. – This is not so-called “window shopping”, that is walking and looking – people visit our center for a specific purpose. This also translates into a much higher conversion in stores – she assessed.

When asked whether the number of buyers should be expected to increase as Christmas approaches, Osińska said: “I don’t think so.” – I think that this traffic will be evenly distributed thanks to the shopping Sunday on December 6, and in fact, thanks to every shopping Sunday in December, customers will not massively visit the center – they will definitely spread their purchases over different days of the week and weekends – she said

Police officers control compliance with the restrictions

– Since the introduction of the restrictions related to the pandemic, we have been checking compliance with these rules every day in various places – said Mariusz Kurczyk on duty in the press team of the Police Headquarters. He noted that also on this Saturday and Sunday, which will be a trading day, officers pay attention not only to mask regulations, but also to those that apply in shops or centers – the number of people or disinfection equipment.

– Due to the beginning of the winter season and the opening of the ski slopes, we are in their area and in addition to the activities related to safety on the slopes, we also control the observance of sanitary and epidemiological restrictions, such as, for example, observance by skiers and staff of ski facilities, the obligation to cover the mouth and nose and using social distance, for example in queues for the lift – informed Kurczyk.

He added that the officers perceive a high social discipline in respecting these restrictions.

Police officers apply legal measures provided for by law, and this may be an instruction, a penalty notice, and in the event of refusal, an application for punishment to the court. In special cases, requests for punishment may be submitted by the sanitary inspection. Pursuant to the Act on preventing and combating infections and infectious diseases in humans, the inspector may impose a fine from PLN 5,000 to PLN 30,000 for failure to comply with the restrictions.
