Warning: The Dangers of Leaving Children in Closed Vehicles During Heat Waves

In light of the heat waves hitting Lebanon and the region, specialists warn parents of the dangers of leaving children in closed vehicles, especially during the summer period, and this is not limited to children, but includes adults of all ages as well.

The human body, when exposed to a high temperature, loses fluids and salts as a result of sweating, which leads to disturbances in the electrochemical balance of cells, and causes a rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, and a decrease in the level of oxygen in the blood, which leads to fainting and may reach suffocation and death.

The following video is a social experiment, with a practical test, that shows what a person might be exposed to from dangers while he is in a closed vehicle at a high temperature, leading to inevitable death, high blood pressure, slowing of the heart rate, and reaching high levels of dehydration in the body’s organs during short period of time.

According to specialists, such accidents may not have a direct impact on the child’s health, but they may cause him a psychological crisis towards distress and a feeling of suffocation in enclosed spaces, and may cause damage to his brain cells, if the temperatures increase to high levels. Therefore, every parent responsible for dealing with children should not underestimate his practices towards them, and remain vigilant and attentive to every behavior he performs with the children, so there is no room for forgetfulness, negligence, or negligence.

The attached video is a community campaign that took place in the UAE under the slogan “Check them out… so you don’t lose them”, in which a number of social media influencers and volunteers participated, so they stayed in a closed vehicle for ten minutes without air conditioning and in a temperature ranging between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius. It increases by 20 degrees within 10 minutes, under medical supervision and civil defense personnel.

The results of the experiment showed that most of the participants felt dizzy, tired, headache, nausea, and a significant decrease in the level of oxygen in their blood, indicating the seriousness of such a situation if the children were exposed to it for a longer time without rescue.
