Wanted murderer arrested in Norway

In 2013, the man was sentenced to nine years and six months in prison for a murder in the country he comes from.

Three years ago he was released on probation and subject to what the court refers to as “police control”. He moved in 2020 to Tromsø, where he has lived and worked since.

Arrest warrant issued

In December last year, he still had to appear in court in his home country. There, it was established that the man had breached the terms of his parole and should therefore be sent back to prison.

Because the man never showed up for sentencing, the police authorities in his home country wanted him and issued an international arrest warrant.

According to international agreements, the Norwegian police must use the relevant country’s arrest warrant as a basis and not verify this country’s decisions unless they are “obviously incorrect”.

Was imprisoned

When the man was presented for remand in Nord-Troms and Senja district court this week, he explained that he has a strong reluctance to return to his home country because he believes he is harassed and threatened by the authorities.

The court nevertheless detained the man for four weeks, but it is expected that the police will quickly request a court hearing to decide the issue of extradition.

The man’s defender, lawyer Håvard Utstøl Jakobsen, does not want to comment on the case. Police attorney Bent Arne Strand has not responded to TV 2’s inquiries.
