Wales Asks Harry Potter Fans: No More Socks On Dobby’s ‘Grave’ | Remarkable

Harry PotterFans are advised not to leave socks at the Dobby movie character memorial on a beach in Wales. Local authorities fear that clothing will cause harm to the environment.

In the Harry Potterfilm series, Dobby is first a house elf (a slave) of the evil Lucius Malfoy. When the owner accidentally gives Dobby a sock, the elf is set free as a slave and free to go as he pleases.

Much Harry Potterfans have fond memories of the sock scene with Dobby. He even took some of them to erect a memorial on Freshwater West Beach in Pembrokeshire, the beach where Dobby’s death scene was filmed.

Since then, the adorable creature’s “grave” has been a magnet for Dobby lovers around the world. Many of them leave a sock at the memorial.

But at some point, the mountain of socks got so big that environmentalists started to worry. It was also thought to tear down Dobby’s imaginary resting place, but it hasn’t come to that yet.

The National Trust Wales now asks visitors not to leave socks or other trinkets on the site. If so, the memorial site can simply be preserved.
