Apparently, in the near future, the army will again replenish the Brazilian striker, who recently broke the contract with Corinthians. Wagner Love has repeatedly returned to CSKA. We recall how it was.
2010 year. He quenched nostalgia and scored Spartak
The first “entry” of the Brazilian in CSKA lasted five seasons, during which he earned the status of one of the best legionnaires in the history of the championship of Russia. But despite the many successes and the love of the fans, Wagner Love was not so happy: he was increasingly drawn to his homeland. In the summer of 2009, the forward asked the leadership of the army to let him go to Brazil – at least temporarily. The leadership without much joy satisfied the request of the Brazilian, having previously signed a new contract with him in order to be able to earn on it in the future.
Wagner was gone for a year – he spent it first at Palmeiras, from where it was bought by a Moscow club, and then at Flamengo. This period was not very successful in terms of both trophies and performance. It is unlikely that the season at home greatly increased the level of skill of the Brazilian, but he rested his head and soul, and therefore was ready to bring CSKA benefits again. True, everyone understood that Wagner’s second coming to the club would not be as long as the first.

But already in the debut match after returning, the striker was marked by a goal, which brought the army team a victory over Spartak (2: 1). Over the next year and a half, the Brazilian helped the team win the Russian Championship (2010/11), and he scored 22 goals in 60 matches in all tournaments. Perhaps, before leaving for Brazil, Wagner was more productive, but that was enough to get a favorable offer on it. In the winter of 2012, the army team lost it to Flamengo for 10 million euros, and this sale is still among the ten largest in the history of the club.
year 2013. Two trophies in half a season
Wagner did not succeed in a long-term cooperation with Flamengo – soon the club began to have financial problems, which made it difficult to keep an expensive striker. For the year in Brazil, he was not particularly pleased with the performance (15 goals) and did not win a single trophy, and the difficulties that had begun only strengthened his desire to leave the team. The striker himself has repeatedly noted that he would like to return to CSKA. CSKA, in turn, was not at all against strengthening the 29-year-old Brazilian in the middle of the 2012/13 season, in which they fought a fierce struggle for the championship. Moreover, “Flamengo” was ready to give the player cheaper than he took – for only 6 million euros.
This transfer turned out to be successful in all respects and can be cited in football management textbooks as an example of breeding activities. First of all, this concerns Wagner’s contribution to the success of CSKA in that season, namely in the “golden double”. In nine rounds of the championship, the Brazilian scored 5 goals and gave 6 assists, interacting well with Seydou Doumbia, and helped the team take the title from Zenit. And in the Cup of Russia, together with the army team he reached the decisive game against Anzhi and scored one of the penalty shoot-outs. Two trophies in six months – there was no longer such a fruitful period in the career of the Brazilian.

And already at the end of the season, CSKA managed to earn decent money on Wagner. The Chinese club “Shandong Luneng” helped, which paid a solid 12 million euros for the Brazilian, so that he is twice represented in the top 10 most expensive sales of army men. Only now it was not clear whether the parties would forever break up or if the attacker would reappear in Vatutinki a year or two later. It turned out that the next opportunity to try on the red-blue form in Wagner will appear only after seven years.
2020 year. Last career contract?
After leaving CSKA, the Brazilian lived a busy life and managed to visit several countries. From China, the striker could return to Moscow, but the army team was not ready to pull his contract – unlike the Corinthians. However, a year later the parties parted, and Wagner Love unexpectedly signed an agreement with Monaco. Then he performed in Turkey, where he defended the colors of Alanyaspor and Besiktas, and in January 2019 he made another call to Corinthians.

A contract was signed with Wagner Love for a season and a half, and the other day it became known that the parties were not going to extend it. After all, the striker will soon hit 36, so it’s hard for him to play in a busy schedule, and the effectiveness is not the same. As part of Corinthians, he spent 39 matches in all tournaments, but scored only 9 goals – not the most impressive statistics. But according to rumors, CSKA is not at all embarrassed by such modest figures, and the option with Wagner’s return to Russia is being actively worked out.

On the one hand, inviting an age forward does not look like a good idea. It would seem better to pull up the youth or take on the market someone younger and more promising, but the Brazilian will not need a lot of money. What does CSKA lose from signing a short-term and, obviously, not the most expensive contract? Wagner Love will not be completely useless for the team, and the PR company around its return to Russia can bring quite good profits to the army team. There is no doubt that T-shirts with his last name in the club shop will be snapped up like hot cakes. And where else to end a career if not in CSKA, in which the striker spent the best years of his career?
