Wolfgang Porsche (76) and Hans-Michel Piëch (78) rarely give interviews. BILD still met the two patriarchs in Wolfsburg. There, the cousins in their offices at VW, Porsche and Audi decide on investments in the billions, on cars that fascinate customers or can scare them away forever, over thousands of jobs in Germany’s most important industry.
Piëch is a lawyer and the largest single shareholder in the company, Porsche a trained businessman, both are spokesmen for the respective family members. And both are friends of clear words. In conversation, Porsche says “a disgrace” about diesel fraud, Piëch calls it “a disaster”. Both only want to talk about Angela Merkel as “car chancellor” in the past tense. They don’t really agree on the speed limit, otherwise they usually do.
