Nationalgeographic.co.id – Archie Michnowiec, son of Amanda and Judd Michnowiec was born with an unusual condition. Original baby English it has a birth record called Sagittal Synotosis.

Reported from BBCThis condition causes Archie’s skull to not grow properly as the brain grows. Unable to grow sideways, the six-month-old’s skull grew back and forth. This condition causes distortion of the shape of the head.

As parents, Amanda and Judd Michnowiec faced a difficult decision. They must choose the risky path of surgery or let this happen but the physical and psychological repercussions haunt the future.

Archie’s condition is not life-threatening, but it can cause speech delays and increased pressure in the head cavity. Thanks to new technology virtual reality (VR), Amanda and Judd can see what changes will happen to their child. Virtual reality allows Archie’s parents to get more information about their child’s condition.

“It’s quite amazing. There are a lot of meetings (with doctors) and a lot of time off (from work),” Amanda told BBC.

Therefore, Amanda and Judd did not think twice when Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, offered the opportunity to be the first to use groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI). Using this technology, they could predict the outcome of Archie’s head operation through virtual reality.

At the inaugural meeting, detailed visualization was displayed through virtual reality. They could see the resulting reconstruction of Archie’s head CT Scan from all angles. Then what does his head look like after the reshaping operation is complete.

The algorithms needed to visualize Archie’s head operations were made possible by leveraging data from 60 operations over the past seven years. The amount of information received made Archie’s parents even more determined in their choice.
