Vodafone fixes internet malfunction: Server had software problems

In the cable network of the telephone and internet provider Vodafone there was an hour-long disruption in parts of Germany on Monday evening. The reason for this was a software problem on a server that controls Internet traffic, the company said. The data traffic was therefore not as smooth as usual, said a spokesman.

Customers in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg therefore had restrictions on accessing websites, streaming films and playing online games. How many customers were affected by the disruption was initially unknown. Numerous people complained via Twitter about internet malfunctions and failures.

Technicians installed new software on the malfunctioning server and were able to rectify the malfunction at around 10 p.m. The traffic is flowing normally again, it was said in the late evening.
