The CEO of Inter Beppe Marotta spoke at Sports Festival in Trento. Among other things, the Nerazzurri manager spoke about the sale of Romelu Lukaku, of the separation with Antonio Conte and of the negotiation for the purchase of Dusan Vlahovic. His words taken from InterNews24.
SANCHEZ – “He would always like to play and what apparently is a feeling of protest we have to transform into great attachment. He gets angry because he does not play, he is not careless and he cares about the fate of the team.We who know him know that these reactions are impromptu and instinctive. We will continue with him until he wants to do otherwise ”.
SCUDETTO – “When we reached the mathematical certainty of the Scudetto it was a great moment, a sort of liberation for having reached a certainly difficult goal. Key moment? There was no precise moment, but I must say that the great evaluation was made in the victory against Juventus, we understood them that we could be protagonists and, even, we understood that we could go far and we got there. CONTE – “The final decision to say goodbye was the result of conversations made in the previous days. It is part of sport, of life and if a person decides to interrupt a relationship, one must have respect, and we must look forward with optimism, because the clubs remain, while the players and coaches pass “.
INZAGHI – “Conte’s decision was not so predictable, it blew us away. On those occasions you have to act promptly and we have identified – fortunately – a young coach with a significant path like Simone Inzaghi, who was about to renew with Lazio. My and Ausilio’s timeliness was to block the renewal with Lazio and present our program ”.
ERIKSEN – “It was certainly a dramatic moment, going from watching a good game to seeing a player you know collapse to hold like this. DZEKO – “When you think about a replacement you must also have a list of possible options ready. It is normal that there are goals that can be achieved and others that cannot. As management we have to knock on the door of the club that has that particular player and see what they respond to. Dzeko wanted to take him last year and, thanks also to the favorable circumstances of the transfer market – the promise of the Roma president -, the striker actually arrived for free ”.
VLAHOVIC – “To date I consider him a great talent, even if you have to wait to talk about a champion. There is a big difference between talent and champion. We also found ourselves in a very challenging negotiation situation, even if we could have imagined arriving at two forwards of this caliber. The target was Dzeko, the second was Vlahovic. There would also be a complementary aspect, with the experienced player for the immediate and the player for the future. It would have been the best, but we were still happy with the Dzeko operation which gave us immediate guarantees ”.
FUTURE – “Surely the pandemic has accentuated a situation of great suffering in which all the Italian clubs found themselves. On average, Inter, Milan and Juve have lost a total of around one billion euros together. The current model therefore does not give guarantees and we had to find remedies, and I think it is right not to always depend directly on the shareholder. I must underline how the Zhang family has lavished around 700 million euros, and it is normal that sooner or later some situations will have to be reviewed. The task of the management is to reconcile the sporting aspects with the economic and financial ones. This year we are certainly calm thanks to the two sales (Lukaku and Hakimi) ”.
FUTURE ASSIGNMENTS – “I can exclude other important sales, of course. I want to reassure the fans that Inter exists and will exist in the future. If this team has a goal, I think it can achieve it ”.
STRETCHER – “Nicolò is one of the examples that from talent has become a champion. It has managed to establish itself more and more. We are facing a true champion and it is also right to reward him from an economic point of view. Let’s say we will meet in the next few weeks. Captain? Yes, it would be very nice, also because Handanovic let’s say he is more advanced in years. He must demonstrate that he also has human skills to be a leader ”.
OSIMHEN – “Osimhen was a costly purchase, but he was not a stranger. Many clubs had bet on him but then there are circumstances that lead you to follow one path rather than another. We knew him, but we were following other leads ”.
ICARDI – “I don’t want to criticize those who managed Inter before me, and certainly Icardi was a great talent, but he was invested with responsibility when he was not yet at full capacity, and I’m talking about the captain’s armband. He is a boy who has always behaved well and the choice was made for other reasons ”.
RECONFIRMATION OF THE SCUDETTO – “I believe that this team can confirm the Scudetto. We want to give the fans the second star “.
MARKET REGRET – “If I had to name one, the last one was at Juventus. We could have taken Haaland, but unfortunately we had to go over budget. We could have really taken it for a while and now it is certainly one of the most important profiles. In Italy? I don’t think you can ever get there, because today Italy is a transition championship and not one where the players want to arrive and stay. This is why we now have to act out of imagination ”.
CRISTIANO RONALDO – “Contrary? No, I have expressed my opinion. Everyone would like to have a champion in the team. He personifies professionalism. However, it is also necessary to place a player like this in a place where, at that moment, there were other aspects to manage. But I’ve never been against it ”.
