“Vladivostok becomes China’s transit point for domestic trade, bypassing customs procedures”

From now on, goods shipped from one province of China to another will pass through Vladivostok without customs procedures.

Russia, whose economy is becoming increasingly dependent on China under Western sanctions, is forced to comply with many wishes of the Chinese side. One of them is Moscow’s consent to China’s recognition of the port of Vladivostok as a transit point for domestic trade.

How informs representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Vladivostok, from June 1 of this year, goods moving from one province of the PRC to another will pass through the mentioned Russian city without customs procedures.

If earlier, goods had to be transported from the Chinese province of Jilin, bordering Russia, to the opposite end of the PRC, covering a distance of 1,000 km to the ports of the Yellow Sea, now they can be delivered to Vladivostok, significantly reducing logistics. In the port of Vladivostok, goods without customs clearance will be reloaded onto ships, after which they will be sent to the buyer.

Reducing the overland part of the logistics route is one of the most important goals set by the Chinese authorities, seeking to implement a strategic plan to revive the industry in the northeastern part of the country.

However, today it is not clear whether the port of Vladivostok will cope with the increase in cargo traffic, because even in the fall of last year, ships there had to stand idle for two weeks waiting for unloading. Interlocutors VPost note that by September of this year, congestion may return again.

Recall that at the end of March this year, Russia had problems with receiving goods from China, after the Chinese logistics company OOCL Logistics refused to deliver goods to Vladivostok, citing Western sanctions. It is noteworthy that these problems began shortly after the visit of Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
