From there they explained that Karolev had a polytrauma, including a severe craniocerebral one. The economist reacted to the pain in the minutes of its discovery. If his condition allows, he will be taken to Pirogov. An ambulance was sent to Razlog for this purpose. The Minister of Health Prof. Kostadin Angelov and the director of the emergency hospital Prof. Asen Baltov travel with her.

The search for Karolev lasted 12 hours. He was found unconscious at 12:40 a.m. Monday night. He was taken out on his hands and at 4:30 am he was handed over to the Emergency Room.

It is assumed that Karolev was injured after a fall that lasted about 400 meters. The accident happened on steep terrain, probably when slipping. Rescuers explain that the economist was found lucky because the place he was at was without signal.

“A helicopter could have been used. However, there is no such miracle in Bulgaria and things will happen for nine days with camels “, Metodi Banevski from PSS is categorical.

“The lack of a helicopter is a huge problem and we continue to be in an extremely pre-flood situation. The only country in the European Union where it takes hours for rescue teams to gather, arrive on foot and transport the victim off the field, “said Dimitar Dimitrov of the Bulgarian Avalanche Association.

The director of PSS Stoyan Neshev described the search for Vladimir Karolev as complicated, without any additional information, on difficult and very icy terrain.

“It is a great pleasure for us to be able to find him in time. Indeed, under these conditions, with such a fall and with such injuries, the outcome could have been more difficult, “said Neshev.

According to him, it is possible that the hard terrain deceived Karolev and that there was a slip and after that – a long fall.

Neshev predicts that Bulgaria may have a rescue helicopter no earlier than 2023.
