The Nobel laureate in medicine has died at the age of 90. He devoted his whole life to virology.

French virologist Luc Montagnier, who discovered the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), died near Paris. The scientist was 89 years old. This is reported Release.

Montagnier was born in August 1932. He graduated from the University of Paris. In 1982, as part of a scientific group at the Pasteur Institute, he discovered the causative agent of AIDS, which had just begun to spread. The scientist devoted his entire life to virology and the study of methods to combat HIV.

In 2008, Montagnier and his colleagues were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work on HIV.

Even at the beginning of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, he suggested that the cause was a leak from a laboratory in which experiments were carried out to treat AIDS.
