Virginie Dembélé Chosen to Represent Mali at ‘Spot on Aarhus 2024’ in Denmark

This is the choice of “Show Cases» of the 10th edition of the Festival «Spot on Mali Music» (from January 12 to 13, 2024 at the Youth Center in Bamako) to represent Mali at the “Spot at Aarhus 2024“, in Denmark. The opportunity is thus offered to him to participate in several artistic events in Scandinavia. Otherwise, it is a new springboard that offers this talented and committed young artist, singer, instrumentalist, author-composer and performer to take a valuable step in global showbiz. And this after having established itself in the musical and even artistic landscape in Mali.

On this subject, it should be remembered that Virginie was, among others, winner of “City talent» from Mali in 2015. A competition initiated by the Korè cultural center in Ségou. This stage beast, nightingale and excellent dancer, was also winner of the “Music against child labor» (music against child labor) in 2021. An international music competition organized by the European Union (EU). Virginie’s young career is marked by numerous collaborations (on a national, African and international scale) with stars like Koko Dembélé, Rokia Traoré, Toumani Diabaté, Salif Kéita… In their company, she traveled the world, notably the France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, England, Canada, Australia, Lithuania, the United States

In 2020, she decided to take her destiny into her own hands by focusing on her own solo career. This resulted in his very first album entitled “Wilé» released on July 22, 2020. A traditional-modern opus with a musical background based on bwa rhythm, tendoro, and African blues. A work well received by critics for whom it “inspires on various current topics, such as peace in a Sahel torn by insecurity, environmental protection and a tribute to women“. Guest on “TV5-Monde» in August 2023, it is then presented as “one of the voices of the young generation of Malian song» with traditional-modern music which “pays tribute to the cultural and linguistic diversity of his country».

According to the young artist herself, “Wilé talks about the entrepreneurial life of women… It’s a mixture of African blues fused with the rhythm of the tendoro. Wilé is a cry in the Sahel for harmonious development in peace and security and also a message for the protection of the environment“. Before this album, the author, composer and performer had distinguished herself with several successful singles. She also sings in the project “Kirina» by the great dancer and choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly. President of the cultural and artistic association “Sio Nou Sin», Virginie Dembélé is also a music author and musician in the theater and music show confidence 2020 by Adama Traoré from Act7 Mali.

It should be remembered that the 10th edition of the music festival “Spot on Mali» took place from January 12 to 13, 2024 at the Bamako Youth Center on the theme: “Mali became ours» ! Literally : Mali has become ours ! And it was the Malian diva, Oumou Sangaré, who this year was the godmother of the event. During the two festive evenings, ten young Malian artists performed live to snatch their tickets from international cultural actors who came specially to attend the event. Organized for ten years, this artistic event aims to open the international scene to talented young artists, musicians and singers from Mali. This festival is sponsored by the Danish Embassy in Mali.
