Sunday around 1:30 p.m., worried neighbors report shouts to 17 which emanate from the apartment occupied by an elderly lady and her son. Obviously, something serious is happening. Crews of police help intervene quickly and discover slight traces of beatings on the 91-year-old mother, who points to her 60-year-old son as having just hit her.
She explains to the police officers central police station that after verbal threats when she refuses to give money to her son, she receives regular slaps, before being pushed around with shoulder knocks, which make her fall. However, to protect her son, the nonagenarian refuses a medical examination.
In police custody, the sixty-year-old, a former drug addict, denies willful violence by ascendant, contenting himself simply with confirming a good relationship with his mother, but, that he gets angry from time to time, as in all families, swearing never to lay a hand on her. The neighborhood has been evoking recurring cries and suspicious noises for a year, like those of the weekend. The nonagenarian shows slight traces of injuries attesting to their seniority. She ensures that indeed, the situation has worsened for a year, with her son increasingly demanding money and violent.
Judicial review
The sixty-year-old was referred to the Montpellier prosecutor’s office, then, in immediate appearance, from which he emerged free. He will be judged next September at Criminal Court for voluntary violence by ascendant. Until the trial, he was placed under judicial supervision with a ban on returning to live with his mother.
