Villa took a new scalp when Watkins lowered his favorite team – VG

(Arsenal – Aston Villa 0-3) Mikel Arteta and Arsenal won 4-1 over Molde on Thursday this week. On Sunday, Aston Villa ended up beating Arsenal 3-0 with Ollie Watkins (24) in the lead role.

Aston Villa opened the season with four victories in four games, where they, among other things shocked when they beat Liverpool 7–2. Then there were losses for Leeds and Southampton before they swept Arsenal off the field in a 3-0 victory on Sunday.

The home side took the lead after 25 minutes, as a result of Matt Targett’s awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. Bukayo Saka was unlucky and put the ball in his own net in an attempt to prevent Villas Trézéguet from scoring.

In the second round, Ollie Watkins also signed up. The striker was signed from Championship club Brentford this summer, and delivered a hat trick for Villa in the big win over Liverpool. Against Arsenal, he delivered two goals in three minutes.

And Watkins’ goals probably meant something more than just scoring two goals against a top club. Arsenal is the favorite club for the two-goal scorer.

– My grandfather and my uncle will probably not be too happy. I’m an Arsenal fan myself, so this is a lot of fun. I’m over the moon, Watkins smiles to Sky Sports after the game.

He points out that they have now shown in Villa that there is a team that can beat everyone. He himself enjoys life in the Premier League after the transition from level 2.

– I love it. There is a lot of pressure for new signings and people expect to perform, but my focus is on scoring goals and delivering well, he says.

According to Sky Sports, Watkins is only the third player to score two or more goals in a Premier League match against Arsenal:

His first goal came when Ross Barkley hammered a post in front of goal, and the striker headed in from close range. Just three minutes later he was played free in the back room by Jack Grealish, and from an oblique angle he hammered the ball in with his left leg.

The 24-year-old striker was probably for many an undescribed magazine when he signed for Aston Villa. In Brentford, however, he delivered the goods over time. In his last three seasons for Brentford, he delivered a double-digit number of goals all three times. In his final season, he came up with an impressive 25 goals in addition to serving three goal-scoring assists.

The club from Birmingham is now in 6th place with 15 points in seven games, only a poorer goal difference behind Chelsea in the place above. Arsenal are down in a somewhat disappointing 11th place with 12 points and with one game more in their belt than Aston Villa.
