Every day NU.nl provides an overview of the most recent figures on the development of the corona virus in the Netherlands. These are the figures that are now available (Monday, April 5), brought together in six graphs.

As of Sunday, 5,365 new positive corona tests have been reported. That is 22.6 percent less than the average of the past seven days (6,929). On Sunday, 6,918 positive tests were reported.

Since the start of the outbreak, about 1.3 million people in the Netherlands have been tested positive. More than 16,600 people are certain to have died from the effects of the corona virus.

The table below shows the average of the past seven days, as well as the number of reported infections per day.

Number of established infections per day

Slightly more patients in hospitals and on ICs

The number of corona patients in intensive care units (ICs) has risen slightly to 746. That is sixteen more than Sunday.

The total number of corona patients in hospitals also increased compared to Sunday. In hospitals, 2,374 Dutch people are now treated with COVID-19, 57 more than Sunday.

To distribute the pressure on healthcare evenly, corona patients are still distributed across the country. In the past 24 hours, eighteen people have been transferred to another region, including three patients on the ICU.

Different clusters of infections in the country

The corona virus has spread throughout the Netherlands. Especially in Drenthe and North Limburg, the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants is currently relatively high.

The numbers fluctuate on a daily basis. The data per municipality will appear when you click on a municipality in the map below.

Most deaths in age category 85 to 89 years

In the past 24 hours, eight people have been registered who died from the effects of the corona virus. Not all of these patients died in the last 24 hours; there may be a delay between the date of death and the reporting date. Sixteen deaths were reported on Sunday.

The elderly are known to be relatively badly affected by COVID-19. Nearly 66 percent of the corona patients who died were older than eighty. 81 percent were 75 years or older.

Most corona patients who died (23.4 percent) were between 85 and 89 years old. According to the RIVM, one baby has died of COVID-19 so far. The child also suffered from other underlying medical conditions.

The infographic below shows the number of infections and the number of deaths per age group. Blue stands for infections and red for deaths.

More men than women died from COVID-19

RIVM receives more reports about men who died of COVID-19 than about female corona patients who died. Since February 27, 8,946 men have died from the effects of the virus, compared to 7,563 women.

In contrast, women tested positive for the virus more often than men. The RIVM reports 670,478 positive tests among women, while 594,414 men received a positive test result in the same time frame.

This difference may be partly due to the overrepresentation of women in care professions. At the beginning of the corona crisis, not everyone could be tested due to the limited testing capacity and it was mainly the care personnel that were tested.

A vaccine is administered every 0.7 seconds

More than 2.8 million injections have been taken in the Netherlands since the start of the vaccination campaign. All vaccines used so far consist of two doses. Nearly 1.7 million people have now received a first dose of a corona vaccine. About 700,000 people have also had a second injection.

With the current vaccination rate, you get average every 0.7 seconds someone a shot, data from the corona dashboard shows. That is more than 52,000 per day.

Footnote: In recent days, we always reported the percentage increase or decrease in the number of infections in the image at the top of this article compared to the day before. As of today, however, we mention the increase or decrease on that image compared to the weekly average (the average of the last six days plus today). The percentages of the past days are therefore not comparable with the percentage of today.
