Hanoi (VNA) – The development of Vietnamese football, the attractiveness and competitiveness of the National Premier League (V-League) has attracted in the country many international players and experts.

The success of the V-League 2020 has helped elevate the brand of Vietnam’s professional football league. A good number of famous coaches and players are set to join the 2021 V-League, which is set to begin in January.

Ljupko Petrovic, who won the UEFA Champions League as a coach, will be the most prestigious coach to work in Vietnam, with Thanh Hoa FC.

In addition, two Thai coaches Kiatisak Senamuang and Alexandre Polking are setting themselves ambitious goals with club Hoang Anh Gia Lai and club Ho Chi Minh City, respectively.

Alexandre Polking, who spent seven years in the Thai Football League (Thai League), said that while the teams participating in V.League improve their infrastructure and investments, more and more international stars of the football would come to play in the country. He also praised the skills of Vietnamese footballers.

As for the players, the 2021 V-League will see Matsui Daisuke’s participation in the Sai Gon club. He is a former midfielder of the Japanese national team, which won the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, and participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Lee Nguyen, named finalist for the 2014 version of the Major League Soccer MVP award, is expected to join the club from Ho Chi Minh City.

The success of the V-League is attributed to the country’s containment of the COVID-19 health crisis, as many other countries in the region are struggling to host matches.

The men’s national football team is currently ranked 93rd in the world and first in Southeast Asia for the third consecutive year.

The women’s national team, ranked fifth in Asia, could compete in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. -VNA
