For many fans, March 2 is a sad date. Thirty years ago, Serge Gainsbourg died of a heart attack at his home, at 5 bis rue de Verneuil (Paris 7th arrondissement). A melancholy birthday which has given rise for a few weeks to many testimonies about the singer, including that of his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, who was keen to engage in the documentary Gainsbourg, a lifetime, broadcast on February 26 on France 3. The actress and singer reveals a little-known side of the artist, straddling several educational principles.
“He was very strict on manners, but like me I can be with my children. That’s what he taught me and what I learned from the rules of good conduct “, remembers the actress. “He was very principled.” This severe behavior did not prevent Serge Gainsbourg from enjoying moments of lightness with Kate Barry (the eldest daughter of Jane Birkin) and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The latter was notably marked by “a lot of profanity, games and big banter”, she reveals. A childhood that she remembers as idyllic.
