Consequence: for the former a real bottleneck systematically congested at rush hour and for tram users a slow connection between the port and the airport. A second underground hopper will allow the cars to pass under the rails. This first phase of development will cost 95 million euros. The works should be delivered at the end of the first half of 2024. Avenue Grinda will then be unblocked thanks to this extension of the Mathis route to the Grenoble route, renamed by then Avenue Giscard d’Estaing. But we will still have to wait until 2026 for it to be directly connected to the motorway. – What are the benefits? >> 13,000 fewer vehicles >> The new expressway exit ramp will relieve congestion on Avenue Édouard Grinda. Ultimately 13,000 fewer vehicles will use this artery. >> 9 minutes saved >> By making the exit from the Mathis lane more fluid, the metropolitan services that the journey time saved for drivers will be on average 9 minutes. >> Tram users will also benefit. By avoiding the intersection of the trainsets with the traffic coming from the expressway, the route of line 2 connecting the port to the airport should be shortened by 3 to 4 minutes. >> 30% less greenhouse gases >> Reducing traffic jams on Grinda Avenue should reduce greenhouse gas emissions from exhaust pipes by 30%. But also reduce noise pollution by 6 to 9 decibels.
