The Paraguayan Beach Soccer Team defeated Brazil 3-2 in the grand final and became champion of the discipline’s Copa América for the first time in its history. The contest was played at the Pynandi World Cup stadium, in the city of Luque.
The Guarani team, led by the young coach, César Molas, quickly took center stage in the game and even took a two-goal lead in the first period. Captain Carlos Carballo in minute 4 and Milciades Medina in minute 11 unleashed the first sacred cries of the host.
However, in the second period it seemed that the ghosts of previous finals returned and Brazil managed to level the score. Igor Melo in the 3rd minute and Lucas Gonçalves in the 9th minute leveled the balance and the suspense was total.
But, again Carlos Carballo, one of the tremendous figures that the Paraguayan National Team had, was in charge of making it 3-2 just before the end of the second period with a powerful free kick, after a foul that the captain himself manufactured.
In the third period, the Pynandi played with a lot of self-respect and appealing to intelligence to resist the victory until the final whistle, which ended up unleashing a unique hubbub in the city of Luque.
This was the third edition of the America Beach Soccer Cup, the first two had been won by Brazil precisely beating Paraguay in the final: 7-3 in Lima 2018 and 12-2 in Santos 2016.

The striker of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer, Sebastián Ferreira, was disaffected from the Paraguayan National Team after testing positive for Covid-19, for which he misses the friendly matches against Japan and South Korea to be played in the coming days in Asian continent.
The news was disclosed by the Albirroja’s own press office. The 24-year-old soccer player, a regular starter on his team, was not even on the substitute bench on Saturday in the Houston Dynamo’s defeat against Real Salt Lake for a new date in the United States soccer league.
It should be remembered that the DT of the Albirroja, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, summoned 27 players, among them only three area referents; Ferreira himself, Gabriel Ávalos and Ángel Romero, who performs much better on the wings. Given this situation, it will be necessary to see if the “Twin” remains with 26 soldiers or calls someone urgently.
Paraguay will face Japan on Thursday, June 2 in Sapporo starting at 6:00 a.m. and then will face South Korea, on Friday, June 10, in the city of Suwon starting at 7:00 a.m.
Forward Sebastián Ferreira tested positive for covid-19 and is disaffected from the friendlies against Japan (06/02) and South Korea (06/10).
